17th Gyalwa Karmapa"Buddhism is a way of life through which we develop the qualities of our mind.
This way of life is very unusual, as it is a means to attain happiness without harming others.

A Progressive Curriculum of Study and Meditation under the Guidance of Lama Jigme Rinpoche

The Chenrezig Cycle

This Year — A Home Retreat
Saturday, May 22—Friday, May 28, 2021

The third year of the progressive cycle of study and meditation initiated by Lama Jigme Rinpoche is for all those who wish to deepen their practice. It allows each of us to acquire the necessary foundations to carry out Chenrezig meditation and to train in this. It is made up of study topics and meditations to practice and is based on the progressive curriculum laid out by Shamar Rinpoche. The contents of each meeting depends on the development of the group.

Due to the current state of the pandemic, the second course of this year’s curriculum will take place via streaming. We invite each participant to organize this seven-day retreat at home. Several sessions a day will allow you to listen to Jigme Rinpoche’s teachings, follow the presentations on Entry to the Path of the Panditas, and participate in Chenrezig rituals on Dhagpo’s YouTube channel. Furthermore, times specifically dedicated to meditation are planned in each day’s program. This cycle—intended for committed practitioners—remains open to anyone who wishes to follow it in part or as a whole.

The Online Program:

• 7–8 am: Chenrezig Practice up through Mantra Recitation
• 9:30–11 am: Teaching from Jigme Rinpoche*
• 11:30am–12:30pm: Meditation (Guided Meditation Available for Those Who Wish)
• 2:30–4 pm: Presentation on Entry to the Path of the Panditas*
• 4:30–6:30 pm: Study and Meditation (Guided Meditation Available for Those Who Wish)
• 8:30–9:30 pm: Chenrezig Practice from the Mantra Recitation through the Conclusion of the Ritual

* Please note: In order to encourage a collective dynamic of retreat, the videos and audios of the teachings of this course are only accessible online for a limited period of time, until Saturday 5 June.

Information of Note

This curriculum is part of an ongoing process of study and meditation initiated and accompanied by Jigme Rinpoche for the last two years. Today, there are more than three hundred committed participants as well as a certain number of occasional auditors who take part in three weeklong retreats per year.
The practitioners who take part committed to following all of the sessions and to carrying out study, reflection, and practice in between each retreat with a letter of motivation to Rinpoche.
In light of the current global health conditions, this week of retreat will be long-distance. Despite this, it remains based on listening, reflection, and meditation. We have maintained a relatively intensivee program that each participant is invited to carry out at home. We have adapted the organization of the program to the circumstances:

  • During his sessions, Jigme Rinpoche will respond to questions sent in advance by practitioners committed to the curriculum. This will give everyone the opportunity to see how Rinpoche approaches the different aspects of the teachings transmitted during these retreats.
  • The restitutors, students of Dhagpo and Kundröl Ling, trained by Khenpo Chodrak Rinpoche—will continue their exposition of the text Entry to the Path of the Panditas by Ju Mipham (1846-1912). We will continue the chapter on the Four Truths of the Noble Ones.
  • Chenrezig practice will begin in the morning up to the mantra recitation. This approach invites each practitioner to train in cultivating Chenrezig’s enlightened presence throughout the day. In the evening, we will carry out the end of the formal practice from the mantra recitation through the dedication.
  • A session of guided meditation will be available online during the retreat period for those who find guidance for their meditation useful. It begins with a reminder of the essential instructions, followed by taking refuge and generating enlightened mind. The meditation is made up of several fifteen-minute sessions marked by a gong. It concludes with the dedication.

We rejoice that the Buddha’s teaching will continue to be shared and that meditation practices in all their forms continue despite the circumstances. We will keep you updated concerning the organization of the remainder of the summer program as soon as the situation allows. Of course, we wish that the conditions for us to gather together at Dhagpo will come together soon.

In general, when we physically attend this type of teaching, we take part in course fees that cover the expenses the center incurs to make Dharma transmission possible. In light of the current circumstances and the transmission via Youtube intended for the greatest number of people possible, these teachings will be open-access and free of charge. Of course, it is still possible to support Dhagpo’s KDC Congregation by making a (non tax-deductible) donation via Paypal or bank transfer (see the information below for details).
