17th Gyalwa Karmapa"Buddhism is a way of life through which we develop the qualities of our mind.
This way of life is very unusual, as it is a means to attain happiness without harming others.

Freeing Yourself from Beliefs - The Self of the Individual and the Self of Phenomena

Khen Rinpoche Samdup

Saturday, February 15–Monday, February 17

Khen Rinpoche Samdup  was born in Tibet in 1975. He became a monk at eleven years old and spent seven years studying Tibetan literature and carrying out retreats at Dhongtsang Monastery in Tibet. In 1993, he received the entirety of the teachings on The Path and The Fruit from Luding Khenpo. He then joined Dzongsar Shedra (monastic university) where he studied philosophy and the Vajrayana. During this time, he also received important teachings from His Holiness Sakya Trinzin. In 2016, Kyabje Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche named him principal khenpo of Dzongsar Shedra, of which he is still abbot today.

Freeing Yourself from Beliefs - The Self of the Individual and the Self of Phenomena

In Buddhism, what we call self-grasping refers to a dual belief: we identify with a combination of body and mind that we call “me,” and we grasp onto outer phenomena as being truly existing, calling them “mine” or “other.” This twofold experience is based on the belief that we—the subject—and the world we experience—objects—have an autonomous, separate existence. Through reasoning-based logic and meditation practices, the Buddha showed that these two aspects (self and phenomena) do not have the reality that we accord them. Khen Samdup gives us the elements that allow us to identify the self of the individual and the self of phenomena—the causes of samsara and the correlate suffering—and shares the means for liberating ourselves.
