17th Gyalwa Karmapa"Buddhism is a way of life through which we develop the qualities of our mind.
This way of life is very unusual, as it is a means to attain happiness without harming others.

Forum: “A Buddhist Perspective of Education and Youth” - Cultivating Stability in Times of Change

Saturday, August 10–Monday, August 12

By communicating, we try to understand what is happening for us and what is happening for the other person. Lack of communication is what causes a conflict to arise. If each of us, parents and children alike, try to understand why another person reacts as he or she does, then mutual understanding can develop and kindness becomes natural.

Cultivating Stability in Times of Change

The Institute’s Forums are spaces for exchange and shared intergenerational development. The process involves bringing together the different understanding and experience of each individual in order to collectively find the resources that respond to our problematics, while basing our reflection on Buddhist principles. It is likewise an opportunity for parents and children to progress together by cultivating clarity and kindness.

This fourth forum focuses on the balance between change and stability, for ourselves as well as within the family unit and in educational relationships. To educate means to deal with others’ transformation, and our own as well. Two notions in particular will be explored: autonomy and the need to discover things for oneself. This can only occur with mutual support and also requires practice. The goal is to cultivate stability in spite of all the changes.

This forum is for both children and parents, as well as educators and teachers.
It approaches education as much from the point of view of values as from concrete situations.
Teaching sessions will alternate with periods of discussion and meditation. Reflection and exploration groups for different ages are also included and offer the opportunity for each participant to find the resources they are seeking. At the end of each day, workshops allow the different generations to meet.

Teacher(s): Lama Jigme Rinpoche, Lama Puntso and Emmanuelle Charenton and a team of qualified facilitators.
