17th Gyalwa Karmapa"Buddhism is a way of life through which we develop the qualities of our mind.
This way of life is very unusual, as it is a means to attain happiness without harming others.

The system of recognizing incarnations (tulkus) is sometimes complicated! For example, after his death, the great 19th century master Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo (1820–1892) reincarnated in five aspects: body, speech, mind, qualities and activity. The lineage of the Beru Khyentses is said to be the incarnation of the aspect of speech.

Nagarjuna, Trinlay Rinpoche, and the Middle Way

Dhagpo has known Trinlay Rinpoche since he was a child in the early 1980s. A promising child, he was born in Switzerland to an American mother and a French father. The 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and venerable Kalu Rinpoche quickly recognized him as the reincarnation of an important Buddhist master.

“When I'm with Sakyapa practitioners, they tell me that I'm Kagyu and when I'm with Kagyu practitioners, people are always reminding me that I'm Sakya,” jokes Shabdrung Rinpoche

Study and Meditation Retreat

It is Wednesday evening and the teaching begins on Saturday: emergency meeting (tranquil none-the-less).
We decide to mobilize the available teachers who support Rinpoché’s activity.

Compassion, British Humor, and Transmission

A debonair stride, a checkered shirt, and a straw hat. Who would think that this describes a scholar—a meditation master trained in both the Sakya and Kagyu Buddhist traditions? It's a bit of wry, very British humor.

Lama Nygyam is completely unknown to the 170 people present in the Institute. When he enters the room, the silence is complete. He prostrates before the altar and places his golden monk's shawl over his shoulders. Each gesture is composed. He settles onto the throne and, for this first session of powa retreat, he transmits the ritual reading of the commentary.

In response to Thaye Dorje, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa's request, and to support Lama Jigme Rinpoche's health and activity, several sessions of accumulation of his long life prayer are carried out daily at Dhagpo.

t: Philosophy for All

“Anyone who applies the Buddha's teaching will discover its reality in his own mind.”
This is, essentially, what Khenpo Chodrak Rinpoche tells us during the summer course, which takes place during three weeks every summer at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling.

 Dhagpo, May 7, 2016

Dear Friends,

We strive to keep you regularly up-to-date about important news concerning Dhagpo.

Recently, Jigme Rinpoche informed Karmapa that he had cancelled some of his travels in Asia for health reasons. In response, Karmapa sent us a new long life prayer that he had composed for Rinpoche. Furthermore, he requested that we recite this prayer daily. We wish to share this information with you in order to encourage as many people as possible to support Rinpoche's activity by reciting this prayer.

All those who have known Rinpoche for several years realize how precious his teachings and his activity are to us, as much through the profundity of the teachings he offers during his courses as through the vastness of his activity in Europe and Asia as Karmapa's secretary and elsewhere in the world where he is ever more frequently invited to teach.

Rinpoche is a bodhisattva whose actions arise naturally according to the needs of beings. It is thus our responsibility, as practitioners and students who follow his teachings, to express our wish that his activity continues. Reciting this prayer is an excellent means of doing so.

It is for this reason that the community of Dhagpo has committed to offering Rinpoche an accumulation of 100,000 of these prayers for his coming birthday on August 15th. If you would like to join in this accumulation, please send the count of your recited prayers by e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. With our best wishes for your practice,

The Community of Dhagpo
