This way of life is very unusual, as it is a means to attain happiness without harming others.

THE 17th GYALWA KARMAPA

Dear Friends,

The plan set out by the government for the gradual reopening of activities continues to unfold, and, as of today, all of metropolitan France is considered green zone. In the context of this deconfinement, Dhagpo’s team continues its reflection, taking into account the current circumstances as well as the center’s longterm development. After the construction of the Institute and the stupa dedicated to Shamar Rinpoche, the next important step in the center’s development is the establishment of a meditation garden that includes the eight stupas, the circumambulation path, and the prayer wheel.

un jardin pour méditer Work on this project was put on hold during the confinement period connected to the pandemic. Meanwhile, the time that the center is closed seems to us an excellent opportunity to advance the development of this project, which will offer an outdoor practice area accessible for all. As such, we have decided to concentrate on its realization starting with the steps of terracing and masonry. This type of work is especially noisy and will take place just behind the Institute, where the core of the teachings take place.

It was not an easy choice. Just a few weeks ago, there were few indicators of how the situation connected to the pandemic would evolve and most building companies had reduced availability. In the end, all the necessary conditions to accomplish this decisive step of construction came together for the month of July.

We hereby confirm the center’s closure during the month of July as announced in May. This time will benefit the development of the meditation garden, which is dear to Jigme Rinpoche’s heart. It seems to us that it is more important than ever during these troubled times to continue the creation of this calm space that consists of supports for beneficial wishes for all.
Although the center will remained closed during July, we won’t lack for teachings as we are pleased to propose a particularly rich and complete online, alternative program.

Each year for the last twenty years, the summer course has taken place at Dhagpo under Khenpo Chodrak Rinpoche’s direction. We wished to preserve this precious cycle of teachings while adapting to the current circumstances. Khenpo Rinpoche will teach in detail on the theme of the four seals that express the essence of the Buddha’s teaching.
Elsewhere, we will explore different aspects of the great vehicle (Mahayana) with Trinlay Rinpoche, who will explain the two aspects—relative and ultimate—of enlightened mind and with Lama Jampa Thaye who will teach on the paramitas as planned in the original program.
The teachings will be livestreamed, and we have made the choice to offer daily session of an hour and a half. Furthermore, to make them accessible to the greatest number of individuals possible, the teachings will be at the end of the day at 6pm during the week and in the morning at 10 am on the weekend.

Of course, the videos will remain online after the initial streaming.

As soon as circumstances allow, we will keep you informed about the evolution of the situation during the month of August. Until then, we rejoice in seeing the continued construction of the meditation garden, as this looks forward to the time when we will once again gather to practice together.
