17th Gyalwa Karmapa"Buddhism is a way of life through which we develop the qualities of our mind.
This way of life is very unusual, as it is a means to attain happiness without harming others.

THE 17th GYALWA KARMAPA

For more than a month now, there have been no group courses or retreats at Dhagpo. Thus, the daily activities dedicated to welcoming the public and ensuring course organization have ceased. For some departments, this presents an opportunity to get ahead on projects and construction that will benefit everyone once the center reopens.

Construction of the New Living Room Area Is Progressing Well

For several months now, the volunteers responsible for building and maintenance at Dhagpo have been working together to create a comfortable and welcoming lounge that will be open to all. Course participants, teachers, and volunteers alike will be able to go relax and spend time together between teachings, meditation sessions, or volunteer activities. A tea corner will also be available.

To make the best use of the project funds, the wood furnishings will be fabricated entirely by Dhagpo’s volunteers using recycled wood, thanks to their valuable skills.

Due to certain types of activity being on hold, all the residents are able to step up and participate in the constructions depending on what the project requires.

The Bookstore Has Received an Authorization for Part-time Activity

Dzambala book and giftstore employs eight residents and serves three functions:
- to facilitate people’s discovery and practice of Buddhism by offering specialized books and objects
- to participate in Dhagpo’s development by contributing to projects financially
- to support the center’s onsite, committed volunteers by creating part-time employment

Like all commerces categorized as non-essential to the country’s economy, the Dzambala bookstore has been closed to the public for a month.

Dzambala

Like many French companies, the commercial entity that manages the bookstore benefits from different types of government support created to help face the economic consequences of the coronavirus Covid-19 epidemic:

- to facilitate people’s discovery and practice of Buddhism by offering specialized books and objects
- to participate in Dhagpo’s development by contributing to projects financially
- to support the center’s onsite, committed volunteers by creating part-time employment

Like all commerces categorized as non-essential to the country’s economy, the Dzambala bookstore has been closed to the public for a month.

The reopening date of the shop, like that of the center, depend on how the evolution of the epidemic and governments guidelines.

Translation Work Continues

Traduction

All through the year, Dhagpo’s and Kundreul Ling’s volunteer translators work to make the Dharma accessible to the greatest number of people possible by interpreting teachings given live and carrying out written translation of texts studied in the context of Dhagpo’s program.

During this time of confinement, the Tibetan-language translation team meets virtually three times weekly to translate Chapter Four of Mipham Rinpoche’s Gateway to Knowledge.

Traduction

This chapter covers the twelve links of dependent origination and Dhagpo’s presentation team will share it during the next Chenrezig Curriculum course (we will share the dates and other details when they are available).

This text allows us to study this essential theme of Buddhist teachings, which Karmapa mentioned in his most recent teachings on impermanence.

During confinement, the translation team also offers practitioners a chance to (re)discover a list of Buddhist terms on Dhagpo’s Instagram and Facebook. Theyhelp us explore the literal meaning of each word or expression and accompany their work with a quote from the masters’ instructions, which allows us to deepen our understanding.

Whether they live at the center or nearby, Dhagpo’s volunteers are taking advantage of this time to study and meditate on change as Karmapa and Lama Jigme Rinpoche advised and also to contribute, as best they can, to Dhagpo’s beneficial activity.

May we all find a place of stillness, clarity & peace.
This place of stillness lies within all of us. Our compassion & wisdom,
our Inner Wealth, is unaffected by even the most extreme external conditions.
No rain can dampen our inner peace. No wind can move our minds
