17th Gyalwa Karmapa"Buddhism is a way of life through which we develop the qualities of our mind.
This way of life is very unusual, as it is a means to attain happiness without harming others.

THE 17th GYALWA KARMAPA

The Five Progressive Vehicles

Tuesday, April 24–Thursday, April 26

“The term vehicle designates what leads us to the result we seek and which allows us to obtain it. Thus, this principally refers to the path.” This is what Mipham Rinpoche (1846–1912) explains in The Gateway to Knowledge, an encyclopedic treatise that brings together and summarizes the essential points of the Buddha's teaching.

Khenpo Ngedon bases his explanation of the five progressive vehicles, which the Buddha taught according to beings' motivation and capacities, on this work. The first two paths allows us to find happiness in this world and the last three liberate us from suffering and ignorance. The last of the five, the great vehicle (Mahayana), is explained in the greatest detail as it allows for the achievement of full and complete enlightenment and leads to vast activity for the benefit of beings.

Knowledge of these five progressive approaches gives a general vision of Buddhism and correct understanding, useful both for engaged practitioners as well as those interested in the study of Buddhism.
